printing - Does such POS systems exist where POS softwares contains all drivers and not the OS -

i writing application pos systems , need bit of understanding of them. know pos systems have os platform on work either normal os windows xp/7 or small footprint 1 windows ce or so. as know, there can different peripheral hardware units printer or cash drawer , can of different kinds (different manufacturers , models). considered these peripherals printer have driver installed on windows being used pos software trigger printing.

but have searched , have seen several pos systems (deployed , not close), may see there pos systems integrated , print triggered payment say, through swipe of card on card swipe machine. hardware seems of same company (for peripherals , pos) , doubt mechanism not involves installation of drivers on os platform. rather in such cases, pos software contains drivers of peripherals , trigger them. there no call default printer on os direct call thermal printer attached. may happening using adk/sdk control peripheral or apis exposed peripheral manufacturer or drivers wrapped in pos software itself.

my question is, understanding here correct or goes via os drivers only? if thinking write, can tell kind of mechanism such pos systems use (i mean sdk or api or driver wrapped in pos software or what)?

yes, such pos systems exists. e.g. our own pos software talks directly peripherals using native protocols of respective devices. of course must understand protocols and, in case of printers, emulations, e.g. esc/pos, esc/label, fingerprint etc.
